Muscle Man Lifting a Block

This was my maya assignment last week. I spent quite a bit of time on this project trying to make the man lift the block as naturally as possible but I couldn't quite get it to work.

Maya Walk Cycle

Here is the walk cycle I made for this week's assignment, I really enjoyed animating the "burt 95" character and spent a long time trying to get the walk looking as natural as possible using the graph editor. I wanted to add more steps but the foot plates kept pinging off to the other side of the screen and I couldn't fix it. I'm really happy with the end result and I'm beginning to like working with maya now that I understand how it works!

Some recent cartoons.

First Ever Blog Post!

So this is the first post in my animation blog!
It's now been a week since I left the Isle of Man and moved into my room on campus and I'm really enjoying the whole experience so far. I've been doing a lot of cartoons recently to get back on form after a very busy in which I did less drawing than I probably should have. Today I didn't have any lectures so I spent the morning watching one of my favourite animated series "Angry Kid", a series of short animations (each about 2-3 minutes long) featuring a prepubescent boy with massive ginger hair. I think I find it funny because I can remember being just like "Angry Kid" a few years ago! I really like the style of animation and I often find his facial expressions funnier than the dialogue.
The first project for my animation course was to make a hand drawn animation featuring a circle transforming into something, I decided to do a circle transforming into a cartoon bear (I'll upload it once I've got it off the computer in the studio).
For my sketchbook project I have to do 12 drawings of a toy going on an adventure and having browsed the toy section on amazon I have chosen to draw a toy telephone. At first I wasn't too sure of what sort of adventure to send the phone on (I considered recreating "Die Hard" with a toy phone as John Mcclane at first) but I know have some idea of what I want to do.
I'm really big fan of the films of action movies such as "The Fugitive", "Falling Down" and anything by Michael Mann or Tony Scott. I love that sort of high intensity movie where the ordinary man has to survive against the odds so I have decided to model the toy phone’s adventure on one of those early 90’s blockbusters. The idea so far revolves around the phone being hunted down for a crime he may or may not have committed by an ice-cold detective who’s been assigned to catch the toy phone as one last assignment before he retires. I’m still trying to think of scenes and I’ve began to plan out a story board/comic strip with the phone running a man over.
